Modelling cognitive processes of experienced air traffic controllers
Article Abstract:
The cognitive activities of experienced air traffic controllers were modelled, with close attention to the mental representation of the situation. An experiment on information intake showed that controllers with differing levels of experience, had to control a traffic scenario when information on the radar screen was masked. The frequencies of unmasking demonstrated that the picture the controller forms is built up by way of a reduction of information regardless of level of experience.

Error mode prediction
Article Abstract:
In the area of Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) there is a need for methods to predict the occurrence of erroneous actions. An approach for qualitative performance prediction is presented, based on the Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM). Predictions of potential erroneous actions was made for operators using alarm systems. Predictions were found to be correct in over 70% of the cases.
