More pro labs go digital
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of professional laboratories are offering digital services. The number of firms offering digital services has almost doubled since 1992, from 39.5% in 1992 to 78.3% in 1999. Digitalimaging's sales share of total shares among labs offering digital imaging services has also increased. As the market reaches saturation, however, labs may not experience the same sales growth they have been. There are already signs that increased competition may be making it more difficult for labs to maintain profitability in the area of digital imaging services.

Conventional camera sales increase 9.4 percent
Article Abstract:
The 1999-2000 PMA Industry Trends Report show that sales of conventional cameras reached 17.7 million units in 1999, the highest level in more than a decade. Several factors contributed to the resurgence in camera sales, including an economic growth rate of 4.2% in real terms in the US in 1999, price stability and greater consumer confidence. The industry also benefited from the rollout of new technological innovations, including digital mapping and the APS format.
