New biotech oasis?
Article Abstract:
Several oil-rich Middle East kingdoms like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are aiming to establish a viable biotechnology industry as part of a wider strategy to build a 21st century, knowledge-based economy not solely dependent upon oil and gas. Dubai-based DuBiotech will create what it calls a free-trade zone for biotech by September 2005, while Qatar is focusing on building the research and academic environment necessary for fueling a biotech industry.

BioXell: An Italian Biotech success story?
Article Abstract:
An Italian biotech firm BioXell faces considerable financial and cultural constraints that could falter further development. It is believed that BioXell's decision to seek a listing in Zurich rather than its hometown Milan underlines the lack of a full fledged investment infrastructure for Italian biotech.
