Non-taxing tax returns
Article Abstract:
Revenue Canada, Taxation (RCT) has made several innovative changes that will benefit taxpayers and tax preparers alike. With service, simplification and convenience as its primary focus, RCT is applying electronic data exchange technology to filing, the direct deposit of refunds and the payment of employer remittances. Taxation centers are improving customer relations while RCT management is being decentralized. The most outstanding changes are the filing of returns without computations and a 'fairness package' which features quick and simple refund and appeals processing and the removal of appeal and election deadlines, interest and penalties.

Twenty questions: answers to the 1992 filing season's most popular queries
Article Abstract:
The 1992 filing season was witness to numerous technical questions about loss situations raised by taxpayers. Answers to the 20 most common questions asked can be answered in varying degrees of certainty. One taxpayer, for instance, asks if she can claim a terminal loss for selling her car. The answer is a negative because there is no provision for terminal loss deductions. Another client who has supported a child as a single parent for nearly a year but got married near the end asks if she can claim the equivalent-to-married credit. Revenue Canada says that the client is entitled to the credit.

Alice in taxland
Article Abstract:
The vagueness and intricacies of Canada's tax law is likened to Alice's experience in wonderland. This analogy is used to emphasize the difficulty taxpayers undergo in interpreting the provisions of the tax legislation. People are having problems understanding certain vague sections of the law much like Alice had difficulty making sense of the occurences in the fictional world of wonderland.
