Northrop aide urges splitting ships funding; killing subs yard costly
Article Abstract:
A senior official of Northrop Grumman Corporation, the largest Navy contractor, urged the government to begin spreading ship and boat construction costs over many years, much as warplanes are funded but warned that closing a Northrop submarine construction yard would be very costly. Northrop president, Michael Petters said that the total cost of the next generation aircraft carrier CVN21 may surpass $13 billion as opposed to the official Navy estimate of 11.7 billion including development costs.
