The importance of design

John Butcher of the Department of Trade and Industry is interviewed regarding the government views on the place of design in improving the economy. Product design is considered important because the British consumer is looking for quality and will buy imports if they do not find it in domestic manufactures. British industry has previously been unaware of the importance of design to its finances. However, Under-Secretary Butcher believes that this is changing.
