Over here, over there - but is it all over?
Article Abstract:
Hanson is to demerge into four parts and this may allow individual firms to raise funds with greater ease from shareholders. The details of the demerger have not been revealed and it is unclear, for example, what will happen to provisions. Hanson increased its debt to 4.7 billion pounds sterling in Jul 1995, after Eastern Group had been acquired. The company's financial pressures are increased by high dividend payments. It is unclear whether the group's financial problems will be eased by the break up.

The company owns many major brand names, but has seen a large rise in debt in 1st half 1995. Funds have already been raised from shareholders, and Trafalgar House may have to sell some of its assets to raise more funds.
