Oxygen consumption and ventilation during simulated escape from an offshore oil platform
Article Abstract:
A simulated escape exercise was performed at the Offshore Fire Training Centre to study oxygen consumption and ventilation during emergencies. the course measured 370 m in length and had 19.4 m of vertical ascent and descent using stairs on simulated offshore structures. Results showed that oxygen consumption and ventilation are related to body weight. Highest work rates were logged by men over the 95th centile for body weight who rapidly completed their tasks.

Measures of operator performance in complex, dynamic microworlds: Advancing the state of the art
Article Abstract:
Microworld research has associated methodological problems such as the problem of performance measurement. A range of objective measures used to characterize the performance of human operators in process control were examined, including novel, quantitative extensions to existing graphical analyses and new graphical representations. Two cases studies focus on the performance and strategy differences of individual operators over a variety of measures.
