Paper runs out of puff
Article Abstract:
The paper industry has seen a rise in prices which boosted profits in 1993 and 1994. Arjo Wiggins Appleton has been affected by customers destocking in 1995. This is likely to be temporary, and economic growth is likely to have more impact on the industry in the longer term. Capacity utilization is forecast at 96% for 1997 by David S Smith, and this represents no change from 1994 and 1995. Other observers are concerned about capacity increases with an estimated 12 projects scheduled to come on stream by 1998, involving a $5 billion investment and boosting capacity by 5%.

Waste's paper merger
Article Abstract:
Waste Recycling will merge with the waste division of Yorkshire Water, and the new business will rank first among United Kingdom quoted waste companies. Yorkshire Water will hold a 46% stake in the new company. Both Yorkshire and Waste Recycling deal with trade waste and civic amenity centers rather than collecting household refuse. The Yorkshire business plans to acquire 3C. Waste Recycling recycles a higher percentage of its waste and is more profitable than the Yorkshire business.
