Paving the way for community care IT
Article Abstract:
The management of residential care funds has been delegated by the British Department of Social Security to local authorities. Budget responsibility has also evolved towards grassroot government agencies. These developments have necessitated information technology application geared towards efficient medical care in the community. The National Health Service and the Community Care Act have obliged the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and the Directors of Social Services Assn to develop software packages on health care. The second phase of their partnership is the publication of a user-statement requirement and a software directory.

A service in search of a strategy: IT in the NHS
Article Abstract:
The comparatively low utilization of information technology in the British National Health Service is due to a limited understanding of the necessity of information in health care, unreliable planning and an inappropriate focus on computerization. Regardless of strategic planning and refocusing by national and regional governments, there is still no sign of expanded use of information technology in health care.
