Pendulum swings
Article Abstract:
Designers have been periodically forced to innovate in response to society's need for new objects and perceptions. Modernism was one driving movement that gave an impetus for transforming common objects to remove all traces of reference to that past. Some designers take the opposing view and derive their creations from those made in the past, as if those which have endured through time are better than what has been newly created. Viewing old objects through modern eyes may reveal how some have not survived for lack of use, while others may recreate the past through the way these objects have been shaped.

Contrasting credos: juxtaposition and the fine art of putting mean men in Santa suits
Article Abstract:
The juxtapositioning for contrast or comparison to heighten the clarity of the perspective was used by the 'Hello Again Recycling for the Real World' exhibition. The most dramatic of these juxtapositions was the fact that just on the floor above ran a show of the handbag designer Judith Leuber which enhanced the bi-polarity of design priorities.
