Personal finance planning: last call for Peps
Article Abstract:
UK investors considering personal equity plans (Peps) have to decide prior to the end of the tax year, if they are to make full use of their allowances. The number of Peps on offer has increased, with nearly 1,200 schemes available. Investors may want to phase their investment, given the high value of UK shares. Investors should also consider their investment needs and the level of risk they are prepared to assume. Peps may involve some risk, so investors wishing to avoid all risks may be better suited to other types of investment.

Savings schemes
Article Abstract:
UK personal equity plans can be used as savings schemes. Savers can invest relatively low sums such as 20 pounds sterling monthly and gain access to the stock market. Peps allow savers greater control of savings and returns are not taxed as are pensions. Commissions tend to be low on savings schemes which is why they tend not to be promoted. There is a division of opinion as to whether savings schemes perform better than lump sum investments. They can, however, allow investors to accumulate a lump sum to invest.

Single company Peps
Article Abstract:
UK investors can choose single company personal equity plans (Peps) for an allowance of 3,000 pounds sterling in addition to their 6,000 pounds allowance for a general Pep. This type of Pep was launched in 1992 and some 100 managers offer single company Peps in the UK. Managed plans allow fund managers to select shares, and company sponsored plans are being offered to employees and shareholders by an increasing number of companies including British Airways.
