Predicting Japanese dairy consumption behavior using qualitative survey data
Article Abstract:
Data from a 1997 Japanese consumer survey were analyzed to determine the Japanese consumption of dairy products that include milk, domestic cheese and imported cheese. Results indicate that milk consumption decreased due to health and taste preferences of Japanese consumers. The survey also revealed that the level of domestic cheese consumption is determined by factors that include product price and taste and health of consumers. On the other hard, a rise in imported cheese consumption is observed because the japanese developed a liking for this product.

Identifying consumer characteristics associated with Japanese preferences toward milk products
Article Abstract:
A study on consumer preferences for milk products in Japan showed that men, middle-aged people, and individuals with no calcium concerns, favor soda and other alcoholic drinks over milk products. Moreover, younger individuals, bigger families, and individuals with calcium concerns are important consumers of milk and dairy products. The demand for milk and dairy products is directly proportional to the seriousness of health concerns.
