Preparation prevents blunders abroad: exhibiting internationally? Here are 5 basic guidelines for success
Article Abstract:
Companies planning to participate in an overseas trade show must observe certain guidelines to ensure success and avoid potential problems. First, it is important to identify growth markets. There are available sources of information on international business opportunities such as the US Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration. They must select the appropriate exhibition for their products and set specific goals for exhibiting. More importantly, firms must adapt to the culture and business practices of countries where an exhibit is being held.

Exhibition association names Ducate to succeed Sind
Article Abstract:
The Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) has named Douglas L. Ducate as president-CEO to succeed Steve Sind. Ducate's appointment comes as the association is busy with a multimillion-dollar fund-raising effort to launch the first promotional project of the trade show industry, the Exhibition Industry Promotion Campaign (EIPC). Ducate plans to resume Sind's work on the EIPC, continue the recruitment of more members, solicit greater support from the academe and apply CEIR's information base in the global market.

Want to start a new conference? Here's how
Article Abstract:
The success of trade shows and conferences depends on a host of factors. Organizers must first determine emerging markets and trends that would justify an event. After a market has been identified, the next logical step is to find out if other events similar to the one being planned exist. It is also necessary to gauge the level of industry support for the event. Other important issues to consider include proper positioning of the show, determination of reasonable rates and selection of the appropriate venue.
