Professionals without prospects?
Article Abstract:
Recession in the UK has resulted in the widespread unemployment of accountants. Three such accountants relate their experiences inunemployment. Tony Greaves was a senior manager at Price Waterhouse before he was laid off in June 1991, while Richard Smart has been unemployed since Aug 1990 following a takeover of Technitron PLC. David Evans resigned from his job in June 1991. All three men have had years of experience and were earning largesalaries in their previous jobs. They have tried their best to look for other positions, going so far as to make sacrifices in terms of salary. However, not one has been successful in obtaining permanent positions. These men have found it beneficial to meet others in similar situations and have attended seminars for unemployed professionals to obtain advise on how to manage their situation.

Pride without prejudice
Article Abstract:
Several commentators and practitioners feared that globalizing forces, the emergence of major financial centers and new technologies would threaten the City of London's position as the leading global financial center. However, the City prospered, aided by the government's actions and decisions, the proof of which is the fact that in the first decade of the 21st century no other financial center matches the global scale, scope and internationalism of London's financial markets.
