Robin Angus of County Natwest
Article Abstract:
County Natwest's Robin Angus is an investment trust analyst who annually produces two large reports, an investment trust annual and a review. Angus believes that investment trusts are the best means for making money. The trusts' discount to asset value is declining, from discounts of between 25% to 35% in 1988 to a current discount of around 15%, and Angus expects the discount to drop further. He feels that the discount is the result of the presence of institutional investors as shareholders. He feels that the discount makes investment trusts attractive targets to predators and decries the takeover by the British Coal Pension Fund of the Globe investment trust since it does not encourage the return of private investors to the stock market.

The venture capitalists
Article Abstract:
An analysis of three Scottish venture capitalist institutions reveals some of the goals of the firms and the predicted trends in the marketplace. 3i investment controller Ross Marshall says the company believes in emphasizing the importance of the management buy-in. Scottish Development Agency director Donald Patience states that his agency fills in the spaces left by the private sector. Murray Johnstone (Glasgow) certified accountant David MacLellan believes that venture capital institutions can make positive returns on investments in the buy-out market. The firm receives many investment proposals a year, and entrepreneurs wishing to be considered need to establish a relationship with the company and also have a clear business plan.
