Profit by comparison
Article Abstract:
The results of the 1992 survey of the Chartac Interfirm Comparison Scheme will provide data that could prove extremely useful in evaluating the relative performance of participating accounting firms. The extensive range of key ratios provided by the Chartac survey would also be quite valuable in establishing a benchmark by which to evaluate similar accounting firms. The 1992 results are expected to be particularly important since they would provide indicators by which to study the impact of the recession on the accounting industry. They would also shed light on the effects of the new audit regulations imposed. Furthermore, survey results could be used as a diagnostic tool with which to ascertain the position of individual firms in the market. The determination of a firm's position is significant since it often serves as the basis for the firm's strategic planning and policy-making.

Best advice, at a price
Article Abstract:
Charities often find it necessary to employ professional fund raisers to manage fund raising activities. Consultants should be used when the amount to be raised is on a scale beyond a charity's previous experience. Most consultants negotiate a feasibility study for a fixed price that ascertains whether a full scale charity program is warranted or whether plans are too ambitious and should be reformulated. Consultants should not be employed when the cost is too high in relation to a charity's resources or when a charity's principals are not actively involved in fundraising.
