Protecting the GEO environment: policies and practices
Article Abstract:
This paper examines the positive and negative trends of countries that maintain spacecraft in a geosynchronous orbit around the Earth. In 1999 it is estimated that 270 spacecraft maintained by by 35 nations participate in this high altitude orbit regime. However, voluntary protection measures must be practiced by the entire aerospace community in order to protect the GEO environment.

Article Abstract:
Enhanced international cooperation is much-needed to improve the quantification and analysis of large amounts of data produced by remote sensing satellites. These satellites are of utility in weather forecasting, climatological analysis, environmental assessments, resource exploration and land-use planning.
