The potential for sustainable rainfed farming in Palestine
Article Abstract:
The status and potential of non-irrigated rainfed agriculture in Palestine are analyzed. A culturally and ecologically sustainable rainfed agriculture must be developed to counter the rapid depletion of water resource in irrigated agriculture along with increasing population and food supply demand. However, the potential of rainfed agriculture is undermined by the unpredictability of rainfall, excessive heat and the risks of insect pests and diseases. Researchers must develop efficient techniques for all aspects of rainfed production and support their implementation by the farmers.

Organic vegetable production in the U.S.: certified growers and their practices
Article Abstract:
The socio-economic characteristics and cropping practices of certified organic vegetable growers are studied and compared to conventional growers. Results show over 60% of organic vegetable farms are less than five acres while over 60% of conventional growers had over 10 acres. Most organic growers are also younger and better educated than conventional growers. Crops most widely grown by organic growers are tomatoes, sweet corn and lettuce.
