Public-Private program boosts port security
Article Abstract:
Robert Perez, from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the government has developed an effective mechanism for creating a public-private alliance for maritime and port security. It is proposed that Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), a Customs and Border Protection program within DHS, where 7,300 participating companies can help eliminate trade's vulnerability to terrorism.

It is imperative that the United States concentrate on the security and efficiency needs of its many sea ports and have an effective recovery process that would be implemented in case of terrorist attacks. US ports handle more than $500 billion of goods a year and links the United States and its economy to the rest of the world.
