Decide on strategy then work on a shortlist
Article Abstract:
UK investors tend not to use a strategy when investing in personal equity plans (Peps). They can chhose between more than 1,000 Peps with 200 managers, and deciding between so many is not easy. Younger investors are more likely to want capital growth and older investors are more likely to need income. Self-select Peps are available for investors who want to choose their own shares. Charges will influence the decision of which plan manager to choose but investment skills are important with certain types of Pep such as investment trust and unit trust Peps.

New Labour, new strategies?
Article Abstract:
UK investors have sometimes used unit trusts to provide an income but this could become more difficult if a Labor government is elected and changes corporation tax rules. Choice of fund manager becomes more important since the manager's task could become more difficult. A Labor government could seek to encourage investment by penalizing companies which give large dividends and by reducing tax credits associated with dividend payments.
