Watchdog gags trustee of stricken unit trusts
Article Abstract:
General Accident (GA) has been banned from discussing the problems of Morgan Grenfell by the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation (Imro). GA was a trustee at two of Morgan Grenfell's unit trusts but quit in Jul 1996 due to concern about how the trusts were run. The trusts went over limits for unlisted securities in their portfolios and have been suspended. The Investors Compensation Scheme pays a maximum of 48,000 to single investors, who should avoid investing more than this sum.

UK property: opening up
Article Abstract:
Real estate investment trusts may be set up in the UK. The proposed trust is a unit trust which is quoted on the stock market. The trust os geared to institutional investors but could have wider appeal. Investment in real estate by institutions in the UK tends to be carried out directly, but trusts will allow institutions to diversify their real estate portfolio. Pension funds have tax advantages in owning real estate directly and real estate funds could also benefit from tax advantages.

TR Property: raise the roof
Article Abstract:
TR Porperty is an investment trust investing in real estate in the UK and abroad. There are forecasts of a recovery in the UK real estate market in 1996, and this would benefit investors in TR Property. The trust has moved into property shares rather than investing in real estate directly to benefit from a possible rise in takeover activity. TR Property has a new manager, Chris Turner, who has established an extremely good reputation in analyzing real estate.
