Putting the opium in poppy to sleep
Article Abstract:
The modification of the alkaloid content of the latex in the opium poppy Papaver somniferum is presented using ribonucleic acid (RNA). It is seen that this modification, results in the production of reticuline that is a precursor of various pharmaceutically active compounds rather than morphine and codeine.

RNA silencing in plants
Article Abstract:
The features that distinguish plant microRNAs from animal microRNAs, the amplification and the mobile signal mechanisms in the short interfering RNA (siRNA) pathways are discussed. The three natural pathways of RNA silencing in plants that are revealed by genetic and molecular analysis are described.
