Quattro Pro 2
Article Abstract:
Borland International's Quattro Pro 2 spreadsheet software package offers a variety of features and a great deal of functionality. The package is fully compatible with Lotus 1-2-3 worksheets and menus. The Install feature makes installation easy by creating the needed disk directories and entries in the DOS system files and providing prompts for details about the hardware. The features include publishing-quality printed output, three-dimensional worksheets, a wide variety of graph styles, and a slide show facility. One interesting feature is the Solver, which computes the price that is needed on a product to achieve a desired profit level. The disadvantages of the package include the lack of a serial number on the 3.5-inch diskette, and relatively unimpressive standard fonts. Overall, Quattro Pro 2 is very easy to use, and the documentation is very good. The package requires an IBM-compatible microcomputer and at least 512K RAM. The cost is 395 pounds.

Seeing through the Windows
Article Abstract:
Graphical PC applications are projected to replace traditional text-based applications because of the numerous advantages they provide. Graphical user interface can speed up operations and make the learning of new applications easier because it eliminates the need for different command or menu restructures for various PC applications. The popularity of graphical applications is best demonstrated by the great demand for Microsoft Corp's Windows 3, a program that has enabled PCs to be graphically controlled, and the subsequent proliferation of software packages that can operate in the Windows environment. Accountants can avail of the many benefits of graphical applications with the availability of Windows versions of accounting software. Two such packages, Sage Sterling for Windows and Pegasus Accounts for Windows, are reviewed.
