Rainbow biotech-South Africa's emerging sector
Article Abstract:
South Africa's biotech industry is becoming more diverse day by day and the country's government established a Public Understanding of Biotechnology program in 2003 to ensure acceptance of this emerging filed in the population. The government is trying to encourage investor confidence in its biotech sector, both at home and abroad, with several economic and legislative initiatives to promote biotech startups and investment.

Margaret Atwood is a Canadian author with more than 30 books of fictions, short stories, poetry, and literary critiques to her credit. She believes that the lack of oversight for biotech applications is a key problem for biotech today and further suggests that the new legislation should be introduced to protect people who wish to come forward and reveal corruption or conflicts in corporate-sponsored research.
