Recession: It's not all bad news
Article Abstract:
It is disputed by economists whether the UK will fall into a full-blown recession, but investors should be prepared for one. The FTSE All-Share index posted positive real total returns in each of the last three recessions, so recessions do not necessarily hold back longer-run earnings growth. Although recessions produce poor returns on cash, investors should not necessarily avoid cash as it is more reliable that gilts or equities as a hedge against a fall in human capital. Recessions all differ, although sectors that are particularly responsive to gilt yields are more likely to do well in a recession.
