Recombinant maxi-K channels on transistor, a prototype of iono-electronic interfacing

The Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry reported on the effect of electrically interfacing a recombinant ion channel to a silicon chip transistor. The ion current produces an extracellular voltage between cell and chip that controls the electronic current.
