Rexam has undertaken a number of measures to improve performance since the appointment of Rolf Borgesson as chief executive. Underperforming businesses have been sold, the workforce has been reduced, excess capacity has been cut, and group operations have been reorganised. The packaging sector was hit by rises in raw material costs in 1995, and Rexam took measures to tackle this, such as using fewer materials. Raw material prices have since dropped, which also benefits the company.
