Defensive posture
Article Abstract:
There is concern that the United Kingdom could be moving into recession, but recessions can create opportunities as well as problems, especially for medium-sized management buyout companies. Companies should cut costs and postpone discretionary spending. They should also talk to their bankers, and if the bankers are not committed, they should seek other sources of finance. They may be able to make acquisitions of smaller companies that have been hit by recession.

Take the middle road to profit
Article Abstract:
Medium-sized United Kingdom companies are a major force in development capital. Multinational companies have merged and shed non-core operations, and private equity investors have shown interest in these disposals. The size of these transactions lies beween 5 million pounds sterling and 50 million pounds. Deals under 50 million pounds can often offer good value since vendors are less concerned about earnings dilution than they are when selling major operations.
