Article Abstract:
Research has revealed a disquieting reluctance on the part of accounting firms to employ people with disabilities in contravention of the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995. The many ways in which firms, albeit unwittingly, legitimize discrimination are examined and recommendations are provided on how professional accounting bodies can give greater consideration to disabled members.

Harnessing upcoming talent
Article Abstract:
The increase in the number of trainee accountants with the top 60 firms in 2006 has indicated that there is a renewed confidence in the profession. The ICAEW is planning to encourage smaller and medium-sized firms to train accountancy students and ICAS has taken steps to make training more attractive for small firms by offering travel grants and a discount scheme for firms with fewer than five partners.

Focus on youth widens skills gap
Article Abstract:
There is a great imbalance between supply and demand in the accountancy profession, especially at the newly qualified end of the market, state observers. However, the focus on skills is widening the skills gap, and employers who realize the advantages of recruiting experienced candidates will eventually gain the most.
