Rumsfeld resists increasing overall troop strength
Article Abstract:
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is not in favor of increasing the size of the Army in response to the continuing war in Iraq choosing instead to keep veteran troops longer, thus rejecting the view of critics that the Army must permanently increase the total troop strength. An increase in the number of troops would result in personnel-related costs and outlays and Rumsfeld is confident that the extension of duty of roughly 20,000 personnel slated for rotation out of Iraq would serve the purpose until perhaps existing forces from other areas can be transferred.

Rumsfeld sees present armaments unbeatable
Article Abstract:
The US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has stated that the US military forces possess the hardware they require to deter attack and some of their armaments are unbeatable. Congress is likely to reverse some of the cuts that the fiscal 2006 Department of Defense (DOD) spending plan proposed for major defense programs, as the Federal budget deficits has reached unprecedented levels.
