The growing popularity of the World Wide Web as a business-to-business advertising tool has spurred the development of web advertising networks. These networks are responsible for selling advertising space for a group of web site marketers. Aside from simplifying the process of ad buying for many marketers, web advertising networks also assume the responsibility for maintaining and upgrading websites.

Intranet, provider surge to spur online spending

Internet service providers are expected to increase their business-to-business (B-to-B) advertising spending in 1996 in conjunction with the anticipated increase in intranet usage. Among the major service providers, America Online spent the largest amount on B-to-B advertising in 1995. The company doled out $84 million in advertising funds to promote its Enterprise product to business clients.
