Salvage job needed after takeover U-turn
Article Abstract:
Psion has abandoned plans to take over Amstrad and both companies have seen a drop in their share prices. Psion was interested in Dancall, a subsidiary of Amstrad which produces mobile phones. Dancall's technology was attractive to Psion, which will have to seek the technology elsewhere, possibly through a link with a larger company. Amstrad has closed its consumer electronics operations but the company's shares are unlikely to perform well unless the company goes private or an outsider comes in to take control.

Psion interest heralds end of Sugar's Amstrad
Article Abstract:
Amstrad may be acquired by Psion which is studying an offer for 230 million pounds sterling for the company. This is equivalent to 2 pounds sterling per share or 0.5 pounds more than a buy-out offer in 1994. Psion is interested in Dancall, the Danish mobile phone manufacturing subsidiary of Amstrad. Dancall uses its own technology and has a good reputation for technical prowess. Psion may sell the remainder of Amstrad once the acquisition has been made.
