House begins debate on defense authorization bill

The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) is planning to begin debate on a $423.1 billion defense authorization bill for the fiscal year ending September 30 2005, including billion of dollars to continue major weapons acquisition programs. Several elements cited by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, chairman of the HASC projection forces subcommittee in his portion of the bill are presented.

Feith says planned cuts don't underfund major programs
Article Abstract:
Dough Feith, under secretary of defense for policy stated that planned cuts in some major defense procurement programs would not underfund major programs. He denied that proposed cuts in procurement budgets are being proposed thoughtlessly, or that they are being advanced solely to fit within constraints of a federal budget.
