Kerry says Bush tax cuts cause defense program reductions

Sen. John Kerry reported that Presidents George W. Bush's cuts on tax in Pentagon would cut many defense procurement programs. He also proposed providing additional funding, about $4.5 billion per year with a fully funded revenue source, for program to ease the distress of National Guard and reserve soldiers called up for active duty in Iraq.

Senate bill rejects extra navy ships, funds FCS, fighter planes
Article Abstract:
The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) is not funding three new ships proposed by a House Armed Services Committee (HASC), but at the same time is providing solid backing to many army and air force programs. The reasons for refusal of SASC and its support plans in other army programs are discussed.
