Share options: not just for fat cats
Article Abstract:
The key to share option schemes is the right to buy at a specified time in the future at a specified price. Employee share option schemes are effectively free of charges compared to those bought directly in the market. The shares do not need to rise much for options to be worth something when they mature. There is no income tax to pay when the share option is granted subject to approval from the Inland Revenue, although proceeds on the subsequent sale of shares are subject to capital gains tax.

Why euro-mortgages aren't so clever: Despite another base-rate cut last week, interest rates on the Continent are still significantly lower than here
Article Abstract:
The recent base rate reduction bodes well for homeowners with variable-rate mortgages, but interest is still expensive compared to rates on the Continent, and with rates on euro-denominated mortgages. There have been warnings about the dangers of borrowing in another currency, and considerations should include income and whether it is paid in euros. However a euro-mortgage does not end currency risk completely, and outstanding debt will vary as sterling moves against the euro.
