Share prices on the move
Article Abstract:
Stock price information is available to UK investors with a mobile phone from Wireless Information Network which gives data on specific stocks and alerts when specific stock prices drop. Martin Dawes plans to offer a similar service from Jan 1998. This company previously offered a service called Mobile Money which is to be relaunched in an improved version. There are also companies providing real-time stock prices using pagers, including Equity Alert and Share Sentry.

Hard labour
Article Abstract:
US interest rates are more likely to be raised in Jul 1996 following data on employment which shows that 348,000 jobs were created in May 1996. Share prices appear unaffected by the chance of higher interest rates. Some measures indicate that shares are inexpensive in relation to bonds. This gives shares greater protection against a prolonged drop in bond prices. Wage inflation is also low and companies could improve their profits as the economy grows.

In search of an Emu effect
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that the impact of European monetary union on equities is not yet clear. It is therefore hard to predict what might happen to the UK stockmarket if the UK joins the single currency soon.
