Shareholder value: managing for the long term
Article Abstract:
Shareholder value analysis (SVA) is a technique that focuses on cash flow and the measurement of decisions and strategic options in value terms. This approach assumes that the future cash flows' net present value determines the worth of a business. SVA operates on a framework that objectively links value to decisions of management evaluated using a planning horizon and six value drivers, which are sales growth rate, tax rate, margin, fixed capital, working capital, and cost of capital. The technique has been observed to improve the performance of a company in the stock market. It also minimizes the possibility of company growth without profit by ruling out opportunities that do not maximize profit.
