Price war is 'red herring'
Article Abstract:
In spite of recent moves by Kwik Save and Asda the UK food retail industry is downplaying talk about a price war in the market. In the light of the recent slowdown in the economy price competition is clearly coming to the fore but it is thought that none of the major retailers will want to do anything to start a full-scale 'war'. Tesco has recently launched comprarative advertising, claiming that its basket of shopping comes in at over 10% lower than Sainsbury's. This follows a price freeze from Asda and the 'Red Alert' campaign from Kwik Save. *
