Souter eyes wider stage
Article Abstract:
Stagecoach does not plan to make further acquisitions in the UK, accroding to Brian Souter, chairman of the company. Stagecoach has acquired over 40 transport operators in the UK, but Souter sees the market as having become overpriced. The company is likely to consider targets in Europe, where Stagecoch already operates buses. Meanwhile, the company faces fines over sub-standard services from South West Trains, its subsidiary, which has cancelled trains following the shedding of 70 drivers' jobs.

Is it a bus? Is it a train? No, it's a juggernaut
Article Abstract:
Stagecoach is run by Ann Gloag and Brian Souter who are sister and brother. The company has expanded rapidly and performed well financially. The company has also expanded abroad with interests in Portugal, New Zealand and Malawi among other places. The company was begun in 1980 with two coaches, and has encountered criticism from UK regulators during its expansion. The company's expansion abroad helps counter this problem, and Stagecoach is also expanding into railroads.
