South Staffs Water
Article Abstract:
South Staffordshire Water may be less affected by price reductions impoed by the industry regulator than many other United Kingdom water companies, because much of its income comes from unregulated activities. These include an insurance service for domestic users who can obtain emergency plumbing services. The company has also charged less for its water than it has been permitted to, and the proposed price cuts are less than for many water companies, partly as a result of this.

South West Water
Article Abstract:
South West Water is likely to face considerable difficulties in 1998, especially as the next review of water pricing approaches. It is probable that water industry regulator Ian Byatt will implement a one-off cut in prices of between 8% and 20%. This will be followed by an obligation to increase prices by below inflation. South West Water already has the highest charges among the UK's water companies, and is therefore likely to attract particular attention from the regulator.

South Staffordshire
Article Abstract:
South Staffordshire is a water utility which is developing into non-water services such as plumbing insurance, where the company has good prospects. There is a risk of a lack of focus from the diversity of its activities, however.
