Stakis's profit for 1995 to 1996 was close to its forecast of 30.6 million pounds sterling. The company's provincial hotels performed well, with a rise in operating profit of 29% at a little more than 40 million pounds sterling and improved occupancy rates with higher prices per room. The casinos saw a drop in profit of 2.8 million pounds sterling at 8.9 million pounds, partly due to the sale of a casino in London, England. Stakis has acquired five metropole hotels and their performance will have amajor impact on Stakis.

Bett Brothers head for the rollercoaster

Bett Brothers profit has been forecast at 3.5 million pounds sterling for 1995 to 1996, a downward revision from 5.5 million pounds. The company has also seen a drop in its share price which could be an opportunity for investors. Nearly half the company's shares are controlled by family shareholders. The company has been affected by difficult market conditions for UK housebuilders. Bett also has 12 hotels and pubs and has gained planning permission for a project to develop a foodstore.
