Article Abstract:
The Livestock Mandatory Reporting Act has given rise to questions: What are the benefits of price data, whether the U.S.D.A. can report these data at a more localized basis and maintain confidentiality, and whether it will lead to collusive pricing by meat packers. The article says: very little, no and very likely: all leading to lower prices received by meat packers for their livestock.

Errors in slaughter steer and heifer prices
Article Abstract:
There is evidence suggesting errors in the pricing of slaughter steers and heifers. An examination of the price and cut out data for 270 carcasses collected in a large beef packing plant in Canada indicated discrepancies between the carcass values and actual purchase values for each carcass. The results suggest that there are systematic errors in beef cattle pricing in the data set.
