Sugar: Navy shows 'New Resolve' to control DD(X) costs
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has estimated the DD(X) cost at $3.3 billion each for the first couple of destroyers and then $2.2 billion to $2.6 billion for later copies. The Navy feels that if one ship would be built by General Dynamics Corp. and the other by Northrop Grumman Corp then the two companies would be put up against each other in a rivalry and the Navy would be able to see which can produce the best copy of the DD(X) for the lowest price.
