Supermarkets win reprieve
Article Abstract:
Supermarkets are under investigation in Britain, where the competition regulator has found that prices have dropped in real terms, and excessive profitability has not been found. There are still investigations into supermarkets relationships with suppliers, and the buying power of the big supermarket chains. Land buying policies are also being investigated, and the extent to which price competition is restricted to low value items. Presure on margins is forecast by a Verdict report on food shopping in Britain.
