Systems for the daily grind
Article Abstract:
Investors are advised to keep software simple since straightforward products may be as effective as more expensive software. Investors should first attend to the basic aspects of their financial affairs and they can use a product such as Excel for this. Spreadsheets can also be used for valuing share portfolios. Standard software packages for managing finaces can be used for preparing accouts for the Inland Revenue and may at some time be used to link with electronic banking services.

Taxing times
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom taxpayers can use software rather than an accountant to deal with their tax affairs. They still have to keep proper records. Software is obtainable from the tax authorities, the Inland Revenue. The introduction of self-assessment has not led to an increase in software products for tax affairs. Some packages have been found to contain errors, and accounting firms have used this as ammunition for their claim that software should not replace accountants.
