Tarmac continues on an uphill road
Article Abstract:
Tarmac has been hit by reductions in spending on roadbuilding in the UK, and a drop in construction orders. The company will benefit from increased housebuilding activity in the UK in 1997 but Tarmac is still faced with the problem of not generating sufficient cash to finance operations. Tarmac's contracting business has difficulty breaking even, and the company is carrying out a 65 million pounds sterling restructuring program. Tarmac's profit is forecast at 46.5 million pounds sterling for 1996, not including the restructuring costs, and this profit could rise to 90 million pounds for 1997.
