Small to medium size businesses can economically test market a product or service, with little disruption to ongoing sales activities, by contracting the services of a telemarketing company. Testing by an outside agency is faster and less expensive than developing an in-house telemarketing center. The benefits of using an outside telemarketing firm for testing, cross-selling, follow-up, and other functions are described.

Certain questions should be answered before beginning to write a telemarketing script. Textbook English does not work well in scripts. Two popular and successful affirmative closings are the alternative selling approach and the drop closing approach.
