Telewest Communications ranks second among British cable operations, and plans a merger with Flextech, the largest channel provider in Britain. The cable industry will benefit from digital TV, and interactive TV also has potential. Telewest is also an internet access provider. Microsoft holds a 29.9% stake in the company. Telewest could be acquired by NTL. The company's stocks represent a risk, due to costs of investing in cable networks. Cable companies may also have to grant access to networks prior to more consolidation beting allowed.
