These taxing times
Article Abstract:
Many changes in tax law during 1997 does not change the fundamental structure of the tax code, but does give relief to many individuals and businesses. The capital gains tax will change from 28% to 20% for assets held at least 18 months. The gain on the sale of a principal residence will be a tax exclusion. The 15% excise tax on retirement distributions will be repealed, and there are numerous changes regarding individual retirement accounts. The taxation of small businesses and of family-owned businesses will also be changed.
